Thank You!

I just wanted to take this time to thank everyone who came out to the South End Open Studios this weekend.  It was a great event blessed with great weather and as a result, a great turnout!  For those of you who made purchases this weekend (either from myself or from any of the artists), thank you so much for your support!  Your investment not only helps promote the arts but the artists as well.

I know it can be overwhelming to take in so much art in so little time, so if you didn’t get the chance to make a purchase, all is not lost!  Any of my custom paintings or framed drawings that you may have seen this weekend are still available and are pictured below for purchasing.  Simply contact me at carolyn.crotty@gmail.com with the description of the art you are interested in and we can work it out from there.  In addition to this, if any of you were interested in purchasing a commissioned, custom pet portrait, house portrait or other piece, please let me know.  I would be more than happy to work with you on creating a unique piece of art work for your home or office.

Thanks again,

Carolyn

With the warm weather becoming more frequent, my painting habits have been rejuvinated!  It is a fantastic thing.  I liken the experience to a reunion with a long lost friend.  In celebration of this reunion, I felt the need to post some of my work from the past year. I have done this not only for your benefit but for mine.  Think of it as just a little homage to spring and thus to the act of creation.  I hope this little taste will entice you all to come out to my spring shows just as it has enticed me to keep creating. See the previous post for dates and please stay tuned for posts of the paintings I am working on now.

…which means I have some shows coming up.  April is going to be filled to the brim with art.  I will be teaching 4 art classes–3 in the South End (http://www.uses.org/youth_programs.htm#Childrens_Art_Centre) and 1 in Arlington (http://acarts.org/) –plus I have 2 art shows in Cambridge and another in Waltham!

On April 19th, 1-4pm I encourage you all to make your way to Gordon’s Fine Wine and Culinary Center in Walham for their Sip, Shop and Support event.  A portion of all sales will go towards the support of the Buddy Dog Humane Society (http://www.buddydoghs.com/).  Plus, in the spirit of animals up for adoption, I will be selling gift certificates for my Pet Portrait Originals as well as some animal-inspired hand made note cards.

On April 26th you should definately make your way to the Hope Fellowship Church in Porter Square (http://www.hopefellowshipchurch.org/) to browse the art and wares of local artists such as myself.  This is an all day event for all ages.

Then, on April 28th from 6-9pm you MUST come down to Christopher’s Restaurant (http://www.christopherscambridge.com/home-flash.html) in Porter Square for the second Block Stars event of the year.  The first was such a big hit we couldn’t resist doing another. This is a really fun event at a really fun restaurant with some reeeeally fun artists and designers.  Shop around, drink some cocktails and if you get hungry don’t worry–you’re in a restaurant!

So I started this blog with the intention of providing my small number of fans with a place for them to view and potentially purchase my original artwork.  However, my ever growing “To Do” lists and obligations have gotten in the way of me bringing this blog to it’s full potential.  So, to make up for lost time I am here at last to provide this little corner of the internet with some of my recent (and not so recent) works of art.  As for now, any purchases or commission requests will have to happen via email and such but I will eventually connect this site with an Etsy site where the buying of wares will be much easier.Enjoy and I apologize for the delay!

This is a pet portrait I did of my brother’s dog Bosco.  Bosco is a very intelligent and expressive dog who made for a great subject to paint.  His eyebrows just imply so much emotion and thought!
Pet portraits are an area I am working on developing further so if you have a four-legged friend you would like a painting or drawing of please contact me.  I would love to work with you!

Hello world!

Beginnings are difficult but everything must start somewhere…and so I start here with energy, hope and ideas.  You can’t see those yet but you will because I begin Creative Ordinary as a little piece of me.  It is my humble gift to the world; a collection of meager expressions of all the ordinary things that are actually quite extraordinary when seen in just the right way.  It is a market place.  It is a gallery.  It is an artists’ forum.

This is just a start but as we all do, this too will grow…stay tuned for the good stuff and thanks for stopping by!

This little drawing was inspired by the Irish landscape.  I lived in Galway for a bit and my memories often present themeslves in dream-like renditions like this one.  I love how the bright hues compliment one another.  This picture, along with more to come, will be for sale on my Etsy site (also soon to come).
